Heads the Independent Review Service. Social Fund inspectors and other staff appointed by the Social Fund Commissioner, together form the independent Review Service for the discretionary Social Fund. The Commissioner is appointed by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. This is a statutory appointment, with duties provided by Acts of Parliament and is required to report annually, in writing, to the Secretary of State on the standard of reviews by Social Fund Inspectors.
